Minneapolis, Minn., July 28, 2018 – The Stonewall DFL Caucus of Minnesota announced its endorsement of Regina Mustafa for Mayor of the City of Rochester.
“Stonewall DFL appreciates Regina Mustafa’s strong history of building bridges within and across Muslim and LGBTQ+ communities. This is the kind of leadership and allyship we hope for in our elected officials,” said Erica Mauter, Stonewall DFL Caucus Chair. “We are confident that she will continue to be a champion for marginalized voices as the Mayor of Rochester.”
The Mayor of Rochester serves a 4 year term and is the chief executive officer of the City of Rochester which has a strong-mayor-council form of government. Rochester is the third largest city in Minnesota and the seat of Olmsted County. Incumbent Mayor Ardelle Brede has served since 2003 and is not seeking reelection.
“I am thrilled and honored that my campaign for Mayor of Rochester has been endorsed by the Stonewall DFL. I respect that this mayoral race is non-partisan, yet supporting our local LGBTQIA community is vital to our city. I stand with Stonewall as we work towards safe and affordable housing, expanded public transportation, preservation of our parks and trails, and a $15/hr minimum wage,” said Mustafa.
Endorsed candidates meet or exceed Stonewall DFL’s screening criteria as set forth by its Political Support Committee and affirmed by at least 60 percent of the Stonewall DFL Board of Directors.
