Minneapolis, Minn., July 25, 2018 – The Stonewall DFL Caucus of Minnesota announced its endorsement of Mohamud Noor for Minnesota House District 60B.
“We’re excited to support Mohamud Noor for House District 60B,” said Erica Mauter, Stonewall DFL Caucus Chair. “He has diligently worked to support the LGBTQ community, to educate folks within his Muslim immigrant community on LGBTQ issues, and to create space for people who hold both of those identities. He has given so much to the community in a professional and volunteer capacity, and has strong connections in all the diverse constituencies that make up the district.”
House District 60B includes all or part of seven Minneapolis neighborhoods – Marcy-Holmes, the University of Minnesota, Como, Seward, Cedar-Riverside, Prospect Park and Nicollet Island/East Bank. Incumbent Rep. Ilhan Omar announced in June that she would instead seek election to U.S. Congress for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district. Omar is the first Somali-American legislator in the United States and Noor would be the second.
“I’m honored to have the endorsement of the Stonewall DFL, and I pledge to continue the work of standing up for our LGBTQ Minnesotans to make sure that we advance full equality in our schools, in workplace, in housing, and in reforming our criminal justice system,” said Noor. “As an African immigrant, I have seen firsthand the impact of discrimination in my community and I look forward to fighting for a State where we treat everyone fairly, and everyone equally, with dignity and respect.
The DFL primary election will take place on Tuesday, August 14.
Endorsed candidates meet or exceed Stonewall DFL’s screening criteria as set forth by its Political Support Committee and affirmed by at least 60 percent of the Stonewall DFL Board of Directors.
